2026 RENOVATION NOTICE

Great library service starts behind the scenes.

 

In mid to late August, the Library will begin long-planned renovations to staff workspaces that support everything from circulation and material processing to administrative spaces.

 

While most visitors never see these behind-the-scenes spaces, they play an important role in supporting the services you use every day. The project includes updates to our technology room, mezzanine, and circulation work areas. Much of the furniture, flooring, storage, and workspace infrastructure in these areas has reached the end of its useful life, making it increasingly difficult for staff to work efficiently and safely. Many of these spaces have remained unchanged for decades.

 

What will this mean for the Library's public spaces? Very little. Our historic circulation desk will remain intact, with only the aging holds shelving being replaced.

 

Work is expected to last approximately six weeks. During that time, visitors may notice some additional noise as flooring is installed and new furniture is assembled. The Friends of the Library Terrace and the Program Room will be temporarily closed, and we anticipate a reduction in programming due to limited space. We will make every effort to keep the building open throughout the project and maintain the high level of service our community expects.

 

Funded through Library reserves, Reading Between the Wines proceeds, and support from the Riverside Friends of the Library, this project reflects years of careful planning and saving. By investing in these essential workspaces now, we are helping ensure that Library staff can continue providing excellent service to the community for years to come.
