Who are the Riverside Friends of the Library?

The Riverside Friends of the Library works to support the Riverside Public Library through fundraising, program sponsorship and volunteering. Since 1931, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised; hundreds of events and programs have been sponsored; and countless hours of hard work have been donated by Friends volunteers. In fact, ours is one of the oldest Friends groups in Illinois.

2017 Focus

Currently, we are working to fund Phase One - Opening Doors, a project which will open up a doorway to the elevator hallway and allow access for all who use it!  We are also going to relocate our on-going book sale location so there is room for more items and uninterrupted browsing.

Ongoing/Annual Projects
  • Fund the Summer Reading Programs for all ages. 2017 was our 25th year!
  • Fund the Future Friends: Books for Newborns program for over 20 years.
  • Host fundraisers like our popular Bingo nights
  • Sell Riverside-exclusive items, like our Farmer's Market bags.
Recently Completed Projects

Through the years, thousands of Riverside children and adults have benefited from the Friend's ambitious undertakings. Most recently, the Friends raised over $85,000 which allowed the Public Library to purchase and install new wooden shelving to house the Adult collections of the Library.
For all new babies in Riverside, the Friends donate a board book to our collection with a commemorative dedication. Request a Newborn book at the CYS desk or online.
