Young Adult
Council
Join YAC - plan fun events, eat
snacks, play games, and speak your mind about the books, magazines, CDs
and DVDs you want in the library! Have ideas for what you would like to
see at the Library? Come to a YAC meeting – new members are always
welcome! YAC is open to 6th – 12th grade students.
Members get first dibs on library volunteer opportunities.

Everyone is welcome at YAC movie
nites. Please bring a signed permission slip for PG-13 and R movies.
Permission slips that are good for the 2008 calendar year are available
at the Youth Services Desk.
Free popcorn and hotdogs will be served.

Rocks ‘N Coke Literary Magazine
We’re looking for Writers and
Artists!
If you have a poem, story, essay,
review, drawing, or comic that you want to see in print – we want it!
The staff of the Young Adult Literary Magazine (Pop Rocks ‘N Coke) is
looking for talented writers and artists to submit their work. We will
publish all work as long as it fits our guidelines (no graphic violence,
etc.). Please include your name, phone number and e-mail address with
each submission. Submissions are accepted by mail or e-mail (zahrobskyk@riversidelibrary.org).
The deadline for submissions is
April 16th, 2008.

Young Adult Volunteers Needed for the Summer!
Who: 6th-12th graders (Your Grade in the Fall of 2008)
When: 2-hour shifts (Monday-Friday and occasionally on Saturdays) in
June and July. Sign up: Sign up to come to one of the following
30-minute orientation sessions
(Volunteers who come to the orientation sessions will get first choice
of the tasks/hours in the summer. If you do not come to one of the
orientations, we cannot guarantee volunteer opportunities for you this
summer.)

____ Thursday, May 22nd, 7:00 pm
Why: - you learn new job-related skills and values - you’ll meet new
people -
you’ll be working in pleasant, air-conditioning during the long, hot
summer - it will make you feel good about yourself and your community -
volunteer experience looks good on applications for jobs and college -
it’s fun! What: - Shelve books or straighten up library shelves - Help
with children’s programs and movie or bingo days - Prepare craft and
activity materials - Help senior citizens learn computer/internet
skills.
