About Our Department

Our Youth Services Department provides some of the most vital services that the Riverside
Public Library offers. The department serves patrons from birth through high school and
always proves to be one of the most entertaining and enthusiastic areas of the library!
We try to provide an atmosphere that promotes learning, creativity and fun
for children of all ages.

A variety of programs are available throughout the year for the children and youth of Riverside.
We offer story times to children from 18 months to preschool. In addition, we have Saturday
morning programs that provide an opportunity for learning, discussion, and creativity
through crafts and other fun activities.

Our skilled staff is always ready to assist our young patrons in finding the appropriate
resources for their homework needs and research projects. Reader's Advisory assistance is
available for selecting appropriate reading materials for patrons from preschool through
adolescence. We also offer reference assistance to parents and teachers.

Our Summer Reading Program features reading, all age story times, and other activities and crafts
that help to make the summer months fun and fulfilling. Don't miss our yearly kick-off party for
the Summer Reading Program. It's always fun!

NEW!

READING OUT-LOUD FOR FURRY FRIENDS (R.O.F.F.F)

The Youth Services Department is excited to introduce a new
program for beginning and strugging  readers. R.O.F.F.F. is modeled
on the Reading Education Assistance Dogs program, but uses
stuffed animals. Because our furry friends are not real and never
leave the Library, they are available at any time to listen to children read.
Each furry friend has a sign out sheet and a list of their favorite book titles.
While any book can be read by the child, the list offers suggestions.
Our furry friends are trained to listen only to readers, not to play with
them. So while hugs are appreciated, all readers are asked to refrain
from playing fetch or yarn toss with the animals!
R.O.F.F.F. was created by Library Director, Janice Fisher with
donations from Build-A-Bear and Fisher’s family members.
