Frequently Asked Questions The Lights for Learning™ provides schools and organizations the opportunity to earn funds by selling energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs). Here are some answers to questions you may have:
1. What is a CFL? A CFL is a Compact Fluorescent Light bulb. 2. How long will a a CFL last? A CFL lasts up to 10 times longer than a standard bulb. 3. They cost more than a standard bulb. Is it worth it? Yes The purchase price is more, but each CFL can save you an average of $71 over the life of the bulb. 4. How much energy does a CFL save? CFLs use 75% less energy than standard bulbs. 5. How are CFLs good for the environment? CFLs save electricity which is produced by pollution-producing power plants. Less electricity used equals less pollution. 6. Where would I use a reflector CFL? A reflector CFL is recommended for use in non-dimming recessed fixtures because the design of the reflector evenly distributes the light to your task area. 7. How often and when can I order bulbs for this fundraiser? The Riverside Friends of the Library plan to offer this program on a monthly basis for at least the next year. Orders submitted by the 15th of the month will be ready by the 25th of the month. You will be notified of the pick-up date via email or phone. Please submit payment with your order. 8. Can I order online? Yes, just click on the Order Bulbs link below. 9. Why sell CFLs? Everyone needs to buy light bulbs Here are some additional reasons they should buy CFLs: -Their energy is used creating light rather than heat; they are cooler to touch, helping to keep the house cooler during the hot summer months -Using less energy means lower utility bills month after month CFLs save you money, are environmentally friendly and provide funds for the Riverside Friends of the Library 10. The Program is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, ComEd, and Ameren Illinois Utilities and is administered by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.
